Ukrainian Version of Astrid Lindgren Installation Unveiled at Swedish Museum

The Junibacken museum in Sweden, dedicated to the works of renowned Swedish author Astrid Lindgren, has launched a Ukrainian version of its installation, allowing children to listen to her fairy tales in their native language.

The Junibacken museum in Sweden, which celebrates the creativity of the famous Swedish author Astrid Lindgren, has introduced a Ukrainian version of its installation that enables children to listen to her stories in their native language. This news was reported by the Ukrainian news agency Ukrinform, following an announcement published on the Chytomo platform.

The voiceover for the Ukrainian version of the installation was performed by the well-known Ukrainian actress Ada Rogovtseva. Now, Ukrainian children visiting the museum can immerse themselves in the world of Astrid Lindgren's fairy tales, listening to them in their mother tongue. This initiative marks a significant step towards ensuring access to cultural treasures for children who have been forced to leave their homes due to the war.

Representatives of the Junibacken museum emphasized the importance of making every child feel part of the world of stories. Sara Viteri, a representative of the museum, stated: 'This is a way to tell every Ukrainian child: this story is yours too. And this place is yours as well.' These words highlight the museum's commitment to creating an inclusive space for all children, regardless of their background.

Ukrainian Ambassador to Sweden Svitlana Zalishchuk also underscored the significance of language for children who have had to leave their homes due to the war. She remarked: 'Thanks to this language, not only my son but many children who have come to Sweden because of the war are receiving a small island of fairy tales in a language they understand—a chance to feel at home.' These sentiments resonate deeply with many Ukrainian children seeking support and understanding in their new circumstances.

The museum further noted that Ada Rogovtseva's voice is familiar to several generations of Ukrainians, and her narration opens up the world of Astrid Lindgren to Ukrainian children in a language that is closely tied to memories of home. This creates a special atmosphere where children can feel comfortable and safe.

Overall, the installation 'Train of Tales' is now available in 17 languages, reflecting the museum's dedication to providing access to cultural values for children from various countries. The Swedish version of the audio guide was originally voiced by Astrid Lindgren herself, adding a unique value to this installation.

It is important to note that the Ukrainian version has become a permanent language option at Junibacken. This was also marked by the presence of the Ukrainian flag, which now adorns the entrance to the installation, where the Ukrainian language appears among other language choices. This symbolizes the recognition of the cultural identity of Ukrainians in Sweden.

Junibacken is one of the most visited children's cultural centers in Sweden, welcoming approximately 300,000 visitors each year. This underscores the museum's popularity and its significance in the lives of children and their families.

Recently, the 'Ukrainian Spring 2026' festival was launched in Stockholm with the participation of the royal family, further affirming support for Ukrainian culture and traditions in Sweden. These events highlight the importance of cultural exchange and mutual understanding between nations.
