Geely Tests New Electric Vehicle Battery: Record Charging Speed of 70% in Just 4 Minutes
Chinese automaker Geely has successfully tested a new electric vehicle battery developed under the Lynk & Co brand, showcasing an impressive charging speed that surpasses recent achievements by competitor BYD.
Chinese automaker Geely has conducted successful trials of a new electric vehicle battery developed under the Lynk & Co brand. This innovative battery technology has demonstrated an impressive charging speed, surpassing recent achievements by competitor BYD.
According to information published by Interesting Engineering, the battery, named the 900V Energee Golden Brick Battery, achieved a peak charging power of 1100 kW. Remarkably, even after reaching an 80% charge level, the battery continued to maintain a power output of over 500 kW, indicating its high efficiency and technological advancement.
As reported by CarNewsChina, the new charging technology enabled the battery to be charged from 10% to 70% in just 4 minutes and 22 seconds. This is significantly faster than its competitors. The study revealed that reaching an 80% charge took 5 minutes and 32 seconds, while the battery charged to 97% in 8 minutes and 42 seconds. These results position Geely at the forefront of innovation in the electric vehicle sector.
The Lynk & Co battery testing was conducted using V4 megawatt charging stations, which belong to another Geely brand, Zeekr. These charging stations boast a peak power of 1300 kW and a current of 1300 A, and are equipped with a full liquid cooling system that efficiently dissipates heat during the charging process.
Currently, the exact timeline for the mass rollout of the new charging devices has not been disclosed; however, they are expected to become available soon, given the high interest in electric vehicles and their charging technologies.
It is worth noting that the Blade Battery 2.0 charging system developed by BYD was introduced just a month ago. It requires 5 minutes to charge a battery from 10% to 70%, and reaching 97% takes 9 minutes. This indicates that Geely has made a significant leap forward with its new battery compared to its competitors.
As of the end of February 2026, Geely's own charging network comprises 2,103 stations and 10,212 charging points, providing coverage in 215 cities across China. Meanwhile, BYD recently established its five-thousandth megawatt station and has ambitious plans to expand its network to 20,000 facilities by the end of the current year.
Thus, with its new battery and rapid charging stations, Geely is demonstrating an ambitious approach to the development of the electric vehicle segment, which could significantly impact the electric vehicle market in the near future.
