Zelensky: Russia Aids Iran, but the U.S. Ignores It Due to Trust in Putin

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has made a significant statement highlighting that the United States has overlooked compelling evidence of Russia's active support for Iran in carrying out attacks on American military bases in the Middle East. According to Zelensky, this oversight is due to Washington's unfortunate trust in Russian President Vladimir Putin.
This information was disclosed by the Ukrainian president during an interview published in the British publication The Guardian. He pointed out that Russian military satellites have identified critical energy infrastructure sites in the Gulf countries and Israel, as well as the locations of U.S. military bases in the region. This data has been relayed to Iran, enabling it to plan further attacks on American facilities.
Zelensky emphasized that he has repeatedly drawn public attention to this situation, questioning, "Have we heard the U.S. response to Russia that they must stop this? The problem is that they trust Putin. And that is unfortunate." These words reflect the deep concern of the Ukrainian president regarding the security not only of Ukraine but also of international stability as a whole.
In addition, Zelensky commented on the trilateral negotiation process concerning the end of the war in Ukraine. He noted that the team of former U.S. President Donald Trump failed to "truly understand the details of what Russia wants." The Ukrainian president believes this occurred because two key Trump negotiators – Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner – "spent too much time" with Putin and his high-ranking officials, which may have led to a misunderstanding of the situation.
Zelensky reminded that U.S. representatives made five visits to Moscow but never visited Kyiv. In his opinion, this indicates a lack of attention from the U.S. towards Ukraine and its needs. He also added that he understands Putin's psychology and his true military objectives better than representatives of the White House. The Ukrainian president noted that Putin will not stop at gaining control over Donbas, and his next step will likely be an attempt to seize regional centers – Dnipro and Kharkiv.
It is worth recalling that on April 6, Zelensky stated that substantive work is currently underway with the United States on documents being prepared as part of negotiations to end the Russian-Ukrainian war. This information has generated some optimism among Ukrainian citizens regarding potential progress in peace negotiations.
Earlier, the head of the President's Office, Kyrylo Budanov, also expressed hope for a possible visit by an American delegation to Kyiv after Easter, which may indicate a revitalization of diplomatic efforts from the U.S. Meanwhile, U.S. Vice President Jay D. Vance recently stated that he considers negotiations between Ukraine and Russia over "a few square kilometers" to be impractical, underscoring the complexity of the situation and the need for a more serious approach to resolving the conflict.
