The case against a Russian agent who attempted to assassinate volunteer and activist Serhiy Sternenko has been forwarded to court. Sternenko, known for his active stance and volunteer work, currently serves as an advisor to the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. According to information released on the Telegram channel of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), the accused is charged with serious crimes under Articles 111, 115, and 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
Specifically, she is accused of treason, attempted murder for mercenary motives, committed by a group of individuals in conspiracy, as well as illegal possession and storage of firearms and ammunition. The perpetrator faces up to 15 years of imprisonment, indicating the seriousness of her actions and intentions.
According to the investigation, the woman, who was recruited by Russian special services, lived in Kyiv. She caught the enemy's attention as she sought quick earnings, which marked the beginning of her criminal activities. The investigation established that in April 2025, at the behest of Russian authorities, the agent began to surveil Serhiy Sternenko. To facilitate this, she moved into the same residential complex in the capital where the volunteer resided.
After some time, the accused received instructions from unidentified individuals in the Kyiv region, as well as a Makarov pistol with ammunition, with the intent to eliminate the activist near his residence. At the moment when Serhiy Sternenko exited his building, the woman fired several shots, one of which struck him in the leg. Operatives of the Security Service of Ukraine, who were present at the scene, promptly detained the perpetrator.
During searches of the detained woman, a phone was found containing evidence of her collaboration with Russian special services, as well as components for a homemade explosive device that she had stored in another apartment. These findings underscore the seriousness of her intentions and preparation for committing the crime.
Comprehensive measures leading to the agent's detention were carried out under the procedural guidance of the Office of the Prosecutor General. This case represents an important step in the fight against Russian aggression and attempts to destabilize the situation in Ukraine through terrorism and violence. Authorities continue to actively work to ensure the safety of their citizens and counter threats from the enemy.
