Over 2800 Drones and 1350 Guided Bombs Target Ukraine in Past Week, Says Zelensky
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has reported alarming military threats facing the nation, revealing that Russian forces launched over 2800 drone attacks and utilized approximately 1350 guided bombs in the last week alone.
In a recent address via Telegram, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky highlighted the serious military threats that the country is currently facing. According to his statements, in the past week, Russian troops have conducted more than 2800 attacks using strike drones, alongside deploying around 1350 guided aerial bombs and over 40 missiles of various types. These figures indicate a continuous escalation of aggression from Russia, which shows no signs of halting its intentions.
Zelensky pointed out that in just one night, Russian forces launched over 140 strike drones, of which approximately 80 were of the 'Shahed' type. He emphasized that these strikes are ongoing in several regions, and this represents only a fraction of what Ukrainians encounter on a daily basis. The President stressed the importance of international support in combating these threats.
Specifically, Zelensky addressed the attacks targeting the city of Odesa. He reported that as a result of nighttime shelling, residential buildings, a kindergarten, and a local electrical substation were damaged. Consequently, thousands of families were left without electricity, and repair crews are actively working to restore power supply.
Tragically, the President also reported human casualties. He noted that three individuals, including a two-year-old child, lost their lives due to the attacks. Zelensky expressed his heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased. Additionally, he mentioned that 16 people were injured, 11 of whom were hospitalized. Among the injured are a pregnant woman and two children, the youngest of whom is yet to reach one year of age. Furthermore, two individuals sustained injuries in the Kharkiv region.
President Zelensky also drew attention to the strikes on energy infrastructure in the Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, and Dnipropetrovsk regions. These attacks threaten not only the safety of Ukrainians but also the stability of the country's energy system.
He called on international partners to intensify efforts in strengthening the air defense system. Zelensky highlighted that collaborative work and support from partners are critically important for enhancing the effectiveness of sky protection. 'Right now, all partners need to work together to bolster air defense so that the percentage of intercepted drones and missiles continues to rise,' he stated. The President also noted that Russia has no intention of stopping its aggression, making it crucial for all countries supporting Ukraine to continue investing in collective defense.
As previously reported, April 6 was declared a day of mourning in Odesa for those who lost their lives as a result of the nighttime enemy attack. This tragedy serves as yet another reminder that the war in Ukraine is ongoing, and its consequences are felt in every corner of the country.
