EU Commissioner Kos Welcomes Passage of Key Laws by Ukrainian Parliament
EU Commissioner for Enlargement, Marta Kos, has expressed her approval of the Ukrainian Parliament's adoption of several critical laws aimed at enhancing the country's Euro-integration and securing international financial support.
EU Commissioner for Enlargement, Marta Kos, warmly welcomed the Ukrainian Parliament's passage of a series of significant laws on Tuesday, April 7, which are crucial for the country's Euro-integration and for obtaining international financial assistance. According to the European Truth news agency, Kos made her remarks in a post on her social media account on platform X, where she noted her approval of the 'positive progress' in the Verkhovna Rada.
In her statement, Kos emphasized that the Ukrainian Parliament has approved a range of legislative initiatives linked to the reforms necessary for integration into the European Union and for securing funding from the International Monetary Fund. 'I welcome the positive progress in the Verkhovna Rada, with Ukraine’s parliament passing important laws connected to EU and IMF reforms. Thank you Speaker @r_stefanchuk and Prime Minister @Svyrydenko_Y for your leadership. This will help unlock more than €2 billion in key...' she wrote in her post.
Kos also expressed her gratitude to Verkhovna Rada Speaker Ruslan Stefanchuk and Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko for their leadership, noting that the laws passed will help unlock over €2 billion in vital funding needed to stabilize Ukraine's financial needs by the summer. 'This is evidence that the Rada remains committed to Ukraine's Euro-integration path,' she added in her commentary.
The results of the Verkhovna Rada's voting were also positively received by the European Union's Ambassador to Ukraine, Katarina Maternova, who highlighted the importance of the decisions made. It is worth recalling that on April 7, the Verkhovna Rada passed in the second reading and as a whole the bill No. 14005, which pertains to the digitization of the procedures for enforcing court decisions. This bill serves as an important indicator under the Ukraine Facility program.
Furthermore, during the session, Law No. 12087-d was adopted, which concerns the integration of Ukraine's electricity markets with those of Europe, as well as a law regarding 'industrial visa-free' travel with the EU. Another significant decision was the passing of the 'Euro-integration' bill No. 14412, which relates to the principles of delineation and distribution of powers among levels of public governance.
At the same time, the European Commission expressed concern regarding proposed changes that could shorten the duration of the status of politically significant persons (PEP) to three years. This issue remains relevant and requires further discussion at the level of the Ukrainian parliament.
Thus, the adoption of these laws represents an important step towards Ukraine's Euro-integration and the strengthening of its economic stability. It also demonstrates the readiness of Ukrainian lawmakers to continue the necessary reforms for integration with the European Union and to attract international financial support.
