Minced meat is a universal ingredient that can be used to prepare a multitude of tasty dishes, ranging from classic cutlets to Italian lasagna and festive rolls. However, to ensure that these dishes turn out truly delicious, it is essential to start with quality and fresh minced meat. So, how can one choose the best minced meat to avoid any mistakes?

Many people, when purchasing a half-kilogram package of minced meat at the supermarket, do not consider its quality. Often, we limit ourselves to checking the production date and the color of the meat, believing that if the minced meat is not bright red, it can be safely purchased. However, to prepare the tastiest cutlets, filling for pancakes, or Bolognese sauce, it is important to pay attention to several key aspects when choosing minced meat.

On his Telegram channel, renowned Ukrainian chef Yevhen Klopotenko shared four simple yet effective tips for selecting the best minced meat. First, when buying minced meat from the meat department or supermarket, be sure to check the label. It should contain information about the type of meat, expiration date, fat content, as well as details about the use of organs or connective tissues. If the minced meat is sold by weight and the label does not provide this information, do not hesitate to ask the seller for documents confirming the freshness of the product.

Next, it is important to assess the appearance of the minced meat. There is a particular nuance here: a bright red color does not always indicate the freshness of the meat. For instance, minced meat with a brownish tint is not necessarily old or unsafe for consumption. When meat is exposed to oxygen, its color can change from bright red to brown. If the minced meat has been stored properly in the refrigerator and consumed before the expiration date, it is safe to eat.

Additionally, it is crucial to pay attention to the smell of the minced meat. It should not have any sour or unpleasant undertones that might raise suspicion. If you detect anything suspicious, it is better to refrain from purchasing it. Regarding storage, raw minced meat should be kept in the refrigerator for no more than two days, with the temperature not exceeding 4 degrees Celsius. If you do not plan to use it within this timeframe, it is advisable to transfer the minced meat to the freezer, where it can be stored for up to three months.

When the time comes to cook, it is best to thaw the minced meat in the microwave using a special setting or leave it in the refrigerator for a few hours. By following these simple recommendations, you will be able to choose quality minced meat and prepare delicious dishes that will delight you and your loved ones.
