At a press conference held at Ukrinform, Taras Lamakh, Vice President of the Boxing Federation of Ukraine (FBU), shared significant news regarding the revival of the Black Sea Cup, a tournament with a rich history traditionally held in Crimea. According to Lamakh, this tournament, which was classified as 'A', has been an important milestone in the careers of many boxers, both Ukrainian and foreign. 'This tournament, with its long-standing history, was traditionally held in Crimea and had an 'A' classification. It has seen entire generations of domestic and foreign boxers. Future Olympic champions and medalists of world and European championships honed their skills at this tournament. However, the event ceased to exist following the occupation of Crimea,' he noted.
Lamakh emphasized that the revival of the Black Sea Cup has become possible thanks to the initiative of colleagues from Crimea. 'At the initiative of our colleagues from Crimea, we decided to jointly revive this legendary event, as the Black Sea Cup is not so much about the past as it is about the future,' he said. The FBU Vice President highlighted the importance of such competitions for the development of sports, particularly boxing, in Ukraine under current conditions. 'The main significance of such competitions is that they provide a boost for the development of sports, especially boxing, during these challenging times,' Lamakh added.
Furthermore, he noted that one of the objectives of the Cup is to support the boxing federations of Crimea and other sports organizations that not only exist but also actively operate in Kyiv and other regions of Ukraine. 'We are confident that the Black Sea Cup will soon return to Ukrainian Crimea,' the Vice President emphasized.
Taras Lamakh also announced that the tournament will take place in the summer, with Odessa selected as the venue due to its deep boxing traditions. It is important to note that the Black Sea Cup will not only be a sporting event but also a symbol of the revival of boxing in Ukraine.
Other significant figures from the boxing world were present at the press conference, including Sergey Antoniuk, President of the Boxing Federation of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, Yevgen Zolin, President of the Sevastopol City Organization of the FBU, and Oleksandr Hordiienko, Vice President of the Boxing Federation of the Odessa Region. All of them expressed their support for the initiative to revive the Cup and underscored its importance for the development of boxing in Ukraine.
This event promises to be a significant occasion not only for boxers but also for all sports enthusiasts, as it symbolizes the restoration of traditions and the pursuit of victory amid modern challenges.
