Russians Begin Deploying Low-Visibility 'Gingerbread' Mines in Nikopol Area

In the Nikopol district of the Dnipropetrovsk region, Russian military forces have begun scattering low-visibility anti-personnel mines, which have been informally named 'Gingerbread'. These explosive devices are extremely dangerous and difficult to detect, making them a serious threat to the lives and health of people living in the area.

Information regarding the use of 'Gingerbread' mines was reported by Ivan Bazilyuk, the head of the Nikopol District State Administration. In his statement, he noted, 'The use of new remote anti-personnel mines, known by the conditional name 'Gingerbread', has been recorded. These explosive devices are extremely difficult to notice and pose a deadly threat to the lives and health of people.'

Bazilyuk also published a photograph of the mine, which resembles a small plastic object similar to a disc or lid, with a diameter of about 5–6 cm. Due to its shape and color, the mine easily blends in with the ground, grass, or debris, complicating its detection.

These mines are capable of exploding with the slightest pressure—simply stepping on them is enough. It has been noted that Russian occupiers may drop them from drones onto roads, yards, fields, and roadside areas, increasing the risk of accidental explosions and injuries to civilians.

This situation raises serious concerns among local residents, who have already experienced the horrors of military actions and their consequences. Recently, on March 31, the Kharkiv Regional State Administration reported the discovery of self-destructing munitions, which also pose a particular danger to the civilian population.

Authorities are urging residents to exercise caution and avoid suspicious objects that may turn out to be mines. In connection with this, information campaigns and educational efforts are being conducted among the population to warn about the dangers and teach how to act in the event of discovering explosive devices.

This news underscores the importance of safety in the context of ongoing military actions in Ukraine and the necessity for civilians to remain vigilant, especially in areas where active combat is taking place.
