Ukraine Destroys 'Slavyanin', Russia's Last Military Ferry in the Kerch Strait

The Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine's Ministry of Defense (HUR) announced that its special forces successfully destroyed the 'Slavyanin', the last remaining railway ferry operated by Russia in the Kerch Strait, during the night from Sunday to Monday. This significant military achievement was confirmed in a statement released on Wednesday via HUR's Telegram channel.

According to the update, 'Slavyanin' was an integral part of the so-called Kerch ferry crossing, which has been crucial in supplying Russian troops stationed in occupied Crimea. The ferry was not only responsible for transporting military personnel but also played a vital role in moving fuel, lubricants, weapons, ammunition, and military equipment to the peninsula.

The operation took place on the morning of April 6. HUR reported that specialists from its active operations department neutralized the vessel using drones, showcasing the effectiveness of modern warfare tactics employed by Ukrainian forces.

This was not the first time 'Slavyanin' had been targeted. In March of this year, the ferry sustained damage during a previous operation but managed to remain afloat. The persistence of Ukrainian forces in targeting this asset highlights its strategic importance to Russian military logistics.

Moreover, on July 23, 2024, the Ukrainian Navy, alongside other branches of the armed forces, struck the ferry while it was docked at the Russian port of Kavkaz, where it reportedly received several direct hits. These repeated assaults underscore Ukraine's commitment to disrupting Russian supply lines in the region.

On the same day, April 6, the General Staff of Ukraine also reported the destruction of a Be-12 anti-submarine amphibious aircraft in the vicinity of Kacha in Crimea, with further assessments of the damage still being conducted.

In another operation on Wednesday, Ukrainian drones targeted an oil refinery terminal in the city of Feodosia, located in occupied Crimea, during the night. Video footage and eyewitness accounts analyzed by the Russian Telegram channel Astra indicated that a fire broke out at the 'Marine Oil Refinery Terminal' following the drone strike.

Robert Brovdi, the commander of Ukraine's drone forces (USF), stated that the attack on the oil refinery terminal was part of a coordinated operation. He emphasized that the strike successfully impacted the fuel storage infrastructure at the facility, which is vital for Russian military operations.

The partisan group 'Atesh' reported that its agents conducted preliminary reconnaissance of the terminal and provided data to guide Ukrainian forces. The group characterized the terminal as a key supply hub for fuel to Russia, further illustrating the strategic significance of the operation.

As the conflict continues, Ukraine's targeted strikes on Russian military assets reflect a broader strategy to weaken the enemy's logistical capabilities and disrupt the flow of resources necessary for sustaining military operations in the region.
