Ukraine and Sweden Strengthen Cultural Cooperation Amid War
The Ukrainian Ministry of Culture has announced a significant enhancement of cultural cooperation with Sweden in the context of ongoing conflict, a development highlighted during the international conference 'Cooperation for Resilience' held in Lviv.
As reported by Ukrinform, the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine has declared a strengthening of cultural cooperation between Ukraine and Sweden amidst the ongoing war. This important event took place during the international conference 'Cooperation for Resilience,' which gathered representatives from various countries to discuss pressing issues of cultural resilience and collaboration.
During the meeting, which marked a significant milestone for both nations, Deputy Minister of Culture of Ukraine Olena Berezhna expressed gratitude to Sweden for its continuous support and active participation in the Alliance for Cultural Resilience. She emphasized, 'Culture is a matter of global security, and it is extremely important for Ukraine to have partners ready to act together.' These words underscore the importance of cultural collaboration in the face of contemporary challenges confronting Ukraine.
Throughout the meeting, both parties reaffirmed their interest in developing a strategic partnership, particularly in the areas of cultural heritage protection, resilience, and recovery. This partnership will be implemented within the framework of the Alliance for Cultural Resilience, which aims to support cultural initiatives during wartime. Additionally, participants agreed to continue dialogue and coordination of joint initiatives in preparation for the Ukraine Recovery Conference (URC2026), which represents a crucial step towards the country's recovery post-war.
The Swedish side also expressed its willingness to collaborate. Sweden's Minister of Culture Parisa Liljestrand highlighted that 'our cooperation is not just about helping Ukraine; it is also about mutual learning.' She pointed out that Sweden is gaining valuable experience from Ukraine's resilience and the preservation of normal life, while Ukraine is ready to share its expertise in cultural and civil sectors. This mutual learning could serve as a foundation for further development of cultural initiatives and projects that will strengthen ties between the two countries.
Furthermore, as reported by Ukrinform, Olena Berezhna also met with Finland's Minister of Science and Culture Mari-Leena Talvitie and Moldova's Minister of Culture Cristian Jardan during the same conference. These meetings reflect Ukraine's active international engagement in the cultural sphere, which is a vital element in the fight to preserve cultural heritage and identity during wartime.
Thus, the strengthening of cultural cooperation between Ukraine and Sweden during the international conference 'Cooperation for Resilience' has become an important step in developing a strategic partnership aimed at supporting cultural heritage and recovery amidst war. This collaboration not only assists Ukraine but also provides both countries with the opportunity to learn from each other, which is extremely important in today's world.
