Ukraine Prepares Proposals to Strengthen Security Guarantees Document — Volodymyr Zelensky
Ukraine is actively developing proposals to enhance the document concerning security guarantees, as President Volodymyr Zelensky announced during his evening video address on Monday, April 6.
Ukraine is actively working on its proposals to strengthen the document related to security guarantees. Currently, substantive discussions are ongoing with the American side, as reported by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky during his evening video address on Monday, April 6.
"As agreed, Ukraine is preparing its proposals, its enhancements to the security guarantees document. These security guarantees are key to a real end to the war and to lasting peace. Overall, it is about creating a political and legal situation where the war can be concluded and where people can trust the process," Zelensky emphasized, highlighting the importance of this issue for stability in the country.
The President also stressed the necessity of support from international partners in the process of ending the war. "It is important for our partners to hear us on this matter, and that we move forward productively in negotiations," he added, expressing hope for constructive dialogue with international allies.
It is worth noting that on April 3, during a conversation with journalists, Zelensky also announced that he had invited an American negotiating delegation to Kyiv. He emphasized that Ukraine would soon incorporate responses to security guarantees questions into the developed document, indicating active engagement in negotiations.
Zelensky explained that this format of negotiations is being considered as an alternative to a trilateral meeting, which is currently complicated due to the war in the Middle East. This reflects the flexibility of Ukrainian diplomacy and the willingness to seek new paths to achieve peace.
In an interview with Reuters published on March 25, the Ukrainian president noted that the United States agreed to provide Ukraine with security guarantees, but on the condition that the Defense Forces withdraw from Donbas. This statement elicited a significant reaction within the American political arena.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio labeled the Ukrainian president's words as falsehoods, prompting additional comments from Zelensky. The Ukrainian leader clarified that Kyiv sought to sign security guarantees even before the end of the war, and relevant agreements were nearly ready; however, the U.S. stated that this would only be possible after the cessation of hostilities.
Thus, the situation surrounding security guarantees for Ukraine remains complex and requires further efforts from the Ukrainian side to achieve the desired outcome. It is crucial for international partners to support Ukraine in these efforts, as the country's security and regional stability depend on it.
