Ukraine Exports Military Expertise: Zelensky Discusses Cooperation with Middle Eastern Countries in Defense Sector

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky recently revealed that Ukrainian expert teams are actively working in Middle Eastern and Persian Gulf countries, assessing defense systems, consulting governments, and laying the groundwork for long-term military cooperation.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky recently disclosed that Ukrainian expert teams are actively engaged in several Middle Eastern and Persian Gulf countries, evaluating defense systems, advising governments, and establishing the foundations for long-term military collaboration. This initiative is part of Ukraine's strategic plan to export its military knowledge and experience gained during the ongoing conflict with Russia.

During a closed meeting with journalists on April 2, Zelensky noted that Ukrainian teams are already on the ground in multiple countries, where they are analyzing the state of defense. 'Our expert groups are there to analyze what is happening in a specific country – at what level their defense stands, what changes are necessary, and what can strengthen it,' he stated.

According to the president, this process has entered its second phase, where partner countries are identifying their needs and priorities. 'We say: 'There must be a system; these facilities need protection.' They respond: 'Our priorities are such.' We tell them: 'After this, they will attack this, this, and this. So, let’s protect them. Let’s protect them physically, as air defense will be insufficient,' Zelensky explained.

He emphasized that the work goes beyond air defense and includes logistics, infrastructure protection, and broader security planning. 'There is a plan. We are talking about systematic work, which is why we have agreed on a decade-long collaboration. And in this cooperation, we discuss the amount of money we need and which they have agreed to pay,' he added.

Zelensky also mentioned that the next stage will involve training, which may take two forms: training personnel from partner countries in Ukraine and subsequently establishing local training bases. 'They will come to us; they will be trained. In any case, at some point, people will want to have their own base. They talk about it, and that’s normal,' the president said.

Additionally, Ukrainian instructors may be sent abroad, although this will depend on the needs of the partners. This cooperation opens new opportunities for Ukraine not only within the military sphere but also in strengthening international relations and partnerships in security.

Given the current situation in Ukraine and the growing threat from Russia, such international cooperation is a crucial step in enhancing the defense capabilities of both Ukraine and its partners in the region. It demonstrates that Ukraine is not only defending its territory but is also actively sharing its experience with other countries that require assistance in strengthening their security systems.
