Drones Attack Oil Terminal 'Sheskharis' in Novorossiysk Again – Media Reports
On the evening of October 15, a new drone attack targeted the strategic oil terminal 'Sheskharis' in Novorossiysk, southern Russia, raising concerns among local residents and authorities.
On the evening of October 15, Novorossiysk, located in southern Russia, experienced a fresh attack by unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) on the strategic oil terminal known as 'Sheskharis'. According to information published by the media outlet Astra, this attack has sparked alarm among local residents and authorities, as the terminal serves as a crucial facility for oil transportation in the region.
According to data from the operational headquarters of the Krasnodar region, debris from the UAVs fell onto the premises of two enterprises located in Novorossiysk. In one instance, a fire broke out, which fortunately was quickly extinguished. The mayor of Novorossiysk, Andrei Kravchenko, confirmed this information, noting that fragments of the drone also landed on a residential building in the Southern inner-city district of the city. Currently, information is being clarified regarding any potential casualties resulting from the incident.
Meanwhile, an OSINT analysis conducted by Astra indicates that the primary target of the attack was the 'Sheskharis' transshipment complex. Video footage published by witnesses, recorded from the eastern shore of the Tsukrova Bay, shows the aftermath of the attack on this vital facility.
The 'Sheskharis' transshipment complex is the largest oil loading terminal in southern Russia and is part of the joint-stock company 'Chernomortransneft', which, in turn, is a subsidiary of the public joint-stock company 'Transneft'. This terminal facilitates the reception, storage, and export loading of oil and petroleum products onto tankers, making it strategically important for the region's economy.
It is worth noting that this is not the first attack on the 'Sheskharis' oil terminal. On the night of March 2 of this year, a significant fire occurred at the same terminal, which was also a result of a kamikaze drone attack. At that time, the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine confirmed its involvement in the attack, which generated widespread media coverage and discussion among experts.
These events underscore the escalating tension in the region and the possibility of further attacks on strategic facilities, which could have serious implications for the security and economy not only of Novorossiysk but of all of Russia. Local authorities are urging residents to exercise caution and adhere to safety measures, as the situation remains tense.
