Man in Kharkiv to Face Trial for Alleged Terrorist Plot

In Kharkiv, a judicial process is about to commence against a man suspected of preparing a terrorist act. According to the investigation, this Kharkiv resident collaborated with Russia and planned to manufacture an explosive device. This information was reported by the Kharkiv regional prosecutor's office.

Law enforcement officials revealed that in the autumn of 2025, the suspect established contact via the messaging app Telegram with a female employee of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Russian Federation (GRU) and agreed to carry out her directives. The investigation found that initially, the man gathered and provided intelligence data and transmitted information regarding the locations of the personnel of the Defense Forces in the city and its outskirts.

“Subsequently, he received a new instruction from the intelligence officer — to assist in carrying out a terrorist act. The agent was tasked with creating a homemade explosive device and planting it in a designated location within Kharkiv. To accomplish this, he purchased all the necessary components and materials,” the prosecutor's office stated.

Following detailed instructions provided by the GRU officer, the traitor began assembling the bomb at his home. However, he was unable to complete the crime — during a search, law enforcement seized the unfinished explosive, its components, and a phone containing evidence of his collaboration with the enemy.

In October 2025, the Kharkiv resident was arrested and taken into custody. During the investigation, it was revealed that in 2014, the man was involved in the so-called 'Anti-Maidan' movement. He was previously held criminally responsible for participating in attempts to seize the building of the Kharkiv Regional State Administration.

Currently, an indictment has been submitted to the court regarding the facts that confirm his actions. The pre-trial investigation and operational support were conducted by officers of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) in the Kharkiv region.

This case has sparked significant public resonance, as it underscores the serious threat posed by individuals collaborating with hostile states, especially in the context of an ongoing military conflict. Law enforcement agencies continue to work on ensuring the safety of citizens and preventing similar crimes in the future.
