Arda Turan, the head coach of Shakhtar Donetsk, has expressed his heartfelt condolences following the tragic news of the passing of legendary Romanian coach Mircea Lucescu. In a post on Instagram, Turan honored Lucescu's significant contributions to the sport.

The head coach of the football club Shakhtar Donetsk, Arda Turan, could not remain indifferent to the tragic news regarding the death of the legendary Romanian coach Mircea Lucescu. In his Instagram post, Turan expressed profound condolences, stating: "Thank you, Mister, for all the valuable contributions you brought to this beautiful game. Your experience and your wisdom will always be our guide, and your legacy will live forever. May your soul rest in peace." This expression of sympathy highlighted the immense respect that Turan and the entire football world hold for Lucescu's contributions to the development of football.

Mircea Lucescu, who led Shakhtar from 2004 to 2016, left behind an enormous legacy. Under his leadership, the team played 573 matches, winning 22 trophies, including 8 Ukrainian championship titles, 6 Ukrainian Cups, and 7 Ukrainian Super Cups. A particularly memorable moment came when, under his guidance, Shakhtar secured their first European trophy—the UEFA Cup in 2009. Following this, in the 2020/21 season, Lucescu also achieved success with Dynamo Kyiv, winning the Ukrainian Premier League.

Unfortunately, on March 29, 2026, after the Romanian national team lost to Turkey in the playoff for the 2026 World Cup qualification, Lucescu was hospitalized. His condition deteriorated, and on April 2, he stepped down as the head coach of the Romanian team. Just a day later, on April 3, doctors discovered that Lucescu had suffered an acute myocardial infarction while in the hospital. Following this, he was placed in a medically induced coma due to severe heart arrhythmias that were unresponsive to treatment.

During a computed tomography (CT) scan, numerous signs of ischemic cerebral strokes and pulmonary thromboembolism were found in Mircea Lucescu. The coach's condition was assessed as critical. Cardiologist Stefan Busnatu, who evaluated Lucescu's condition after the CT scan, noted that several organs—heart, brain, and lungs—were affected, significantly increasing life-threatening risks. Unfortunately, on April 7, 2026, Mircea Lucescu passed away, leaving a tremendous void in the world of football.

Earlier, former Shakhtar player Yaroslav Rakitsky also said a heartfelt farewell to Lucescu, expressing his respect and gratitude for the coach's contributions to the development of the team and Ukrainian football as a whole. The death of Mircea Lucescu represents a significant loss not only for his family and loved ones but also for the entire football community.
