Sybiga Highlights Ukraine's Experience at Meeting on Resuming Navigation in the Strait of Hormuz
During an international meeting chaired by UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga made a significant statement, emphasizing the connection between the situation in the Strait of Hormuz and Russian aggression against Ukraine.
At an international meeting held under the leadership of UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga made a crucial statement, highlighting the link between the situation in the Strait of Hormuz and Russian aggression against Ukraine. According to Sybiga, terrorist regimes such as Iran and Russia are exchanging experiences that could have serious implications for global security.
The head of Ukrainian diplomacy noted that Iran's actions in the Strait of Hormuz have parallels with what Russia has been doing in the Black Sea. He emphasized that Iran has learned from the mistakes made by Russia and is now attempting to implement its goals, which he described as destabilizing global markets and blackmailing other countries. Sybiga pointed out that while the objectives of both countries are similar, the difference lies in the fact that four years ago, Russia attempted to use food as a weapon, whereas today, Iran is trying to turn energy into an instrument of influence.
The minister also stressed that Ukraine has a direct interest in the stability of global markets. He noted that Russia should not be allowed to exploit instability in the Middle East to finance its aggression against Ukraine. Sybiga highlighted that Ukraine has managed to overcome the Russian blockade in the Black Sea by utilizing maritime drones and a smart strategy, demonstrating the possibility of successfully combating aggression.
An important part of Sybiga's speech was the emphasis on the necessity of adhering to the principles of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea in the Strait of Hormuz, just as in the Black Sea. He called for joint actions to overcome the blockade, stating, 'We must put an end to this blockade. Ukraine is ready to work with countries in the region on a bilateral level and cooperate with our transatlantic partners. Ukraine is prepared to contribute.'
This statement from Sybiga serves as an important signal to the international community, which must focus on security issues in the region. As reported by Ukrinform, US President Donald Trump also commented on the situation, threatening to halt arms supplies to Ukraine to compel European allies to join a coalition to restore navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. These events underscore the importance of international cooperation in combating aggression and ensuring stability in strategic waters.
