Stefanchuk: Ukraine to Implement Necessary Reforms for EU Membership by 2027

Ukraine is poised to undertake significant reforms aimed at completing its preparations for European Union membership by 2027. This announcement was made by Ruslan Stefanchuk, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada, who emphasized the importance of support from the Netherlands in this endeavor.

Ukraine is prepared to implement a series of crucial reforms to finalize its preparations for joining the European Union by the year 2027. This statement was made by Ruslan Stefanchuk, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada, who highlighted the significance of Dutch support in this process.

During a video conference with Senate President Mei Li Vos and House of Representatives President Tom van Kampen, Stefanchuk noted that the first conversation following the election of the new leadership of the Dutch parliament confirmed that support for Ukraine would remain consistent and effective. 'We highly appreciate the Netherlands' unwavering support for Ukraine's European integration. I confirmed that we are ready to implement all necessary reforms to complete our preparations for EU membership by 2027 and we count on the Netherlands' support for the swift unblocking of the negotiation process,' he stated in a post on Facebook.

The Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada also emphasized the importance of discussing the accountability of the aggressor—Russia—under international law. The parties discussed the establishment of a Special Tribunal and the initiation of a compensation mechanism aimed at reimbursing damages inflicted on Ukraine as a result of the war.

'We also talked about Ukraine's contribution to European security, as our country possesses unique experience in countering Russian threats,' noted Stefanchuk, underscoring the significance of Ukrainian experience in the context of continental security.

Additionally, he shared that the Dutch side highly appreciated the productive work of the Verkhovna Rada amid the ongoing war. According to him, the Ukrainian parliament has continued to operate and make important decisions that affect the stability and development of the country since the onset of the full-scale invasion.

As part of the discussions, both sides exchanged invitations for mutual visits, aimed at further strengthening interparliamentary cooperation between Ukraine and the Netherlands. This underscores the desire of both countries to enhance bilateral relations and develop joint initiatives across various sectors.

Thus, Ukraine continues to move towards European integration, hoping for the support of its partners, particularly the Netherlands, in implementing the necessary reforms. The importance of this process lies not only in the context of obtaining EU membership but also in strengthening security and stability in the region.
