Russian Shelling in Residential Area of Kherson Claims Lives of 4, Injures 7

On April 7, 2023, Russian military forces launched an attack on a residential neighborhood in the Korabelny district of Kherson. According to regional authorities, the shelling lasted approximately 30 minutes, leading to the tragic deaths of four civilians and injuring seven more.

Governor of Kherson region, Oleksandr Prokudin, reported that the shelling specifically targeted residential buildings. During the assault, a store, a pharmacy, and several apartments in high-rise buildings were damaged. Among the injured were four women and three men, all of whom are currently receiving medical assistance.

In addition to the shelling, Russian troops also conducted airstrikes on the village of Stepanivka, resulting in injuries to four individuals and causing significant damage to civilian infrastructure. According to Prokudin, three guided bombs were dropped on the center of the village, destroying a school building and damaging a hospital along with nearby residential houses.

As a result of this attack, three men and a 14-year-old boy were injured. The boy sustained moderate injuries, while his father is reported to be in critical condition, as per the governor's statements. Prokudin later clarified that the number of fatalities from the shelling had risen to four individuals.

“It has been confirmed that another man sustained fatal injuries during the attack. His identity is currently being established. My condolences to the family and friends of the deceased,” he wrote.

Earlier on the same day, Russia struck a civilian bus in the city of Nikopol using a first-person view (FPV) drone, resulting in the deaths of three people and injuring 16 others, regional authorities reported. Dnipropetrovsk Governor Oleksandr Hanža noted that the drone hit the bus in the city center as it approached a stop where people were both inside the vehicle and waiting nearby.

These events underscore the alarming situation in Ukraine, where civilians continue to suffer from violence amidst the ongoing war. Authorities are urging the international community to take action to halt aggression and protect innocent lives.
