Russian Drone Strikes Residential Building in Sumy, Injuring Civilians

In a series of drone strikes on April 3-4, Russian forces targeted Ukraine, hitting a 16-story residential building in Sumy and igniting a fire in Kyiv's Darnytskyi district.

In the early hours of April 4, Russian military forces launched a series of drone strikes across Ukraine, with one of the most significant attacks occurring in the city of Sumy. According to Oleg Grygorov, the head of the Sumy Regional Military Administration, an enemy unmanned aerial vehicle struck the 13th floor of a residential building located in the city center. The impact caused a fire to erupt on the upper floors, prompting the State Emergency Service (SES) to urgently evacuate residents from the affected building.

Officials reported that at least seven individuals were injured as a result of the attack, including one child. Firefighters utilized high-rise equipment to combat the flames, which spread to four different addresses, including private residential areas. Sergey Kryvoshiyenko, the head of the Sumy City Military Administration, confirmed that four of the injured received medical assistance following the strike in the Zarichne area.

In the capital city, Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko reported that debris from the downed drones caused a fire on the roof of a four-story office building in the Darnytskyi district. Timur Tkachenko, the head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, noted that emergency services were actively working to extinguish the fire at this non-residential structure. Details regarding any injuries in Kyiv are still being clarified.

The air threat also disrupted transportation services, with the national railway operator, Ukrzaliznytsia, announcing emergency stops and the evacuation of passengers on suburban trains in the Kyiv region. Operations resumed after the threat passed, as confirmed by the company in a statement on Telegram.

These strikes on Saturday morning followed a massive aerial assault on April 3, during which Russian forces targeted multiple sites across Ukraine, continuing their aggressive campaign against the country. Authorities are urging citizens to remain cautious and adhere to safety measures as the situation remains tense.
