Russian Forces Attack Naftogaz Facilities in Poltava Region, Causing Fires and Damage
On April 4, 2023, Russian forces launched a drone attack on the infrastructure assets of the Naftogaz Group located in the Poltava region, highlighting the severe implications for the energy security of the area.
On April 4, 2023, Russian military forces executed a drone strike targeting the infrastructure assets of the Naftogaz Group in the Poltava region of Ukraine. This alarming incident was reported by Serhiy Koretsky, the Chairman of the Board of Naftogaz Ukraine, who emphasized the gravity of the situation and its repercussions for the energy security of the region.
Koretsky stated that the initial attack resulted in a fire, followed by a subsequent strike on a Naftogaz facility shortly thereafter. Fortunately, there were no casualties reported from this assault; however, the situation remains tense, given the frequent bombardments by Russian troops.
Furthermore, Koretsky highlighted that since the beginning of the year, Russian forces have attacked Naftogaz facilities over 40 times, indicating systematic attempts to destabilize Ukraine's energy infrastructure. These attacks are inflicting significant damage not only to the physical infrastructure but also to the overall energy security of the nation.
It is noteworthy that on March 29, Russian military forces targeted Naftogaz facilities in the Sumy region, leading to fires and considerable damage, although again, there were no reported injuries. These incidents underscore the ongoing threat faced by energy enterprises in Ukraine.
On March 28, one employee of Naftogaz was killed due to a Russian strike on a facility in the Poltava region. Naftogaz reported that Russian forces attacked three production facilities with drones during the night and early morning of March 28. They also noted that gas extraction assets in the Poltava region have been under attack for three consecutive days, raising serious concerns among the local population and experts alike.
Additionally, on the night of March 27, Russian forces targeted a gas extraction facility belonging to the Naftogaz Group in the Poltava region, resulting in the suspension of operations at the plant. The Poltava Regional Military Administration reported that due to the drone attack in the Poltava district, an industrial facility was damaged, leaving over 5,000 families without gas. These events illustrate how the war directly impacts the lives of ordinary Ukrainians who are suffering from the consequences of military actions.
Consequently, the situation regarding attacks on Naftogaz facilities remains critical, and Ukraine's energy infrastructure requires protection and support from both the state and the international community. Each new bombardment threatens not only energy stability but also the safety of the population residing in these regions.
