This announcement was made on the SBU's official Telegram channel on Thursday, emphasizing the importance of timely responses to potential threats. The new hotline number, 1516, is designed to facilitate easier communication for the public in reporting any concerning behavior or activities they may observe.
According to information provided by the SBU, calls to this number are free of charge from both landline and mobile phones, regardless of the telecommunications operator within Ukraine. This decision comes in response to the increasing activity of Russian intelligence services, which have been attempting to recruit Ukrainians for carrying out terrorist acts, sabotage, arson, and other illegal activities. The SBU’s proactive measure aims to enhance public safety and encourage vigilance among citizens.
In its announcement, the SBU urges citizens to remain alert and not to fall victim to provocations. "The Security Service of Ukraine calls on citizens to be vigilant, not to succumb to provocations, and to immediately report any suspicious activity to the hotline," the official statement from the agency reads. The SBU has outlined specific scenarios in which individuals should contact the hotline at 1516. These include reporting information regarding the preparation of terrorist acts, sabotage, or other illegal activities. If approached by strangers with offers related to arson, the transfer of unknown items, or surveillance of individuals or vehicles, this also constitutes a valid reason to reach out to the SBU.
Moreover, the hotline can be contacted if suspicious items or individuals exhibiting strange behavior are observed. If individuals are aware of online resources being used by the enemy for recruitment purposes, or have any other information regarding the activities of Russian intelligence services, they are encouraged to report this as well.
The agency assures that all received information will be thoroughly verified, and confidentiality of the reports is guaranteed. "Your call or message could save lives – both yours and those of others.
