Opposition Party Tisa Poised for Success in Hungarian Parliament Elections

The opposition party Tisa is showing promising signs of success in the upcoming Hungarian parliamentary elections scheduled for April 12. According to a recent poll by the Median sociological agency, the party led by Peter Madyar could secure between 138 and 142 seats in the 199-member parliament.

The opposition party Tisa is poised for potential success in the upcoming Hungarian parliamentary elections, which are set to take place on April 12. Recent forecasts from the Median sociological agency, published on April 8, indicate that the party, under the leadership of Peter Madyar, may secure between 138 and 142 seats in the parliament, which comprises a total of 199 deputies.

Sociologists have analyzed the results of the last five public opinion polls conducted in late February and March. Their findings suggest that Tisa, which has been vocal in its criticism of the current government, has a genuine chance of obtaining a significant majority in parliament. Such a victory could represent a crucial step towards altering the political direction of the country.

In contrast, the ruling party of Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, Fidesz, is projected to win between 49 and 55 seats in parliament. Additionally, the far-right party Our Homeland is likely to gain five or six seats. Consequently, to achieve a majority necessary for constitutional amendments and key legislative changes, Tisa will need to secure at least 133 seats.

If these predictions hold true, Madyar's party will be in a position to implement changes that could unlock European Union funds, an essential issue for the economic development of Hungary.

Amid these developments, U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance visited Budapest on April 7, expressing support for Viktor Orbán and calling him the “best player” in the realm of diplomacy. This backing from the United States could significantly influence the political landscape in Hungary.

Furthermore, U.S. President Donald Trump has also publicly endorsed Orbán. During a phone conversation with Vance, Trump noted that he is a “big fan” of the Hungarian Prime Minister, which may indicate strong ties between the two nations.

On April 1, Reuters reported that the opposition party Tisa has widened its lead over the ruling Fidesz party in the lead-up to the April 12 elections. These data suggest a growing support for the opposition among voters, which could result in substantial changes in Hungary's political landscape.

Thus, the elections on April 12 could prove to be pivotal for Hungary's future, as the voting results may radically alter the country’s political course and its relations with the European Union.
