Officer from Dnipropetrovsk Region Played at Casino While on Sick Leave – State Bureau of Investigations

Employees of the State Bureau of Investigations (DBR) have wrapped up a pre-trial investigation into yet another episode involving an officer from the Dnipropetrovsk region. This officer had earlier aided a regional council member in faking military service. While on a fraudulent sick leave, he was found to have visited casinos and received monetary compensation.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the DBR reported that the military officer had forged a medical certificate to evade his official duties. The documents indicated that from April to September 2025, he was undergoing inpatient treatment. However, in reality, during this period, the officer was engaged in organizing illegal activities and managing personal affairs.

The investigators established that during this so-called 'treatment,' he also visited gambling establishments and spent significant amounts of money. The Bureau clarified that despite his actual absence from service, the officer continued to receive his financial compensation.

According to the Bureau, this military officer had previously been exposed for facilitating the local council member's fictitious military service. Additionally, in September 2025, he, along with accomplices, was uncovered for organizing the illegal departure of servicemen to European countries.

The materials from the main proceedings concerning the council member were forwarded to the court in February 2026. Currently, the officer faces additional charges of evading military service under martial law (part 4 of Article 409 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine) and fraud (part 2 of Article 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
