New Sanctions Against Iran Will Help Unblock the Strait of Hormuz - Estonian Foreign Minister

Estonian Foreign Minister has emphasized the crucial role of new sanctions against Iran in ensuring maritime security in the region, stating that these measures could effectively unblock the Strait of Hormuz.

According to Ukrinform, the Estonian Minister of Foreign Affairs highlighted the importance of new sanctions against Iran for ensuring maritime security in the region. In his speech, he noted that increasing sanctions pressure on Iran and decisively halting the activities of Iran's 'shadow fleet' could serve as effective measures to unblock the Strait of Hormuz.

The Estonian Minister stressed that the restoration of shipping in the Strait of Hormuz is extremely important, especially in the context of the ongoing full-scale aggression by the Russian Federation against Ukraine. He emphasized that the current oil prices and disruptions in energy supplies in the Middle East contribute to additional profits for Russia, which could be used to continue its aggression against Ukraine.

'This must come to an end, and pressure on Russia must be intensified,' the Estonian Foreign Minister asserted. He also noted that discussions and cooperation among international partners regarding the unblocking of the Strait of Hormuz are ongoing, indicating active diplomatic efforts in this direction.

This statement from the Estonian Foreign Minister comes against the backdrop of recent comments by French President Emmanuel Macron, who stated that France would not support the United States in a forceful 'opening' of the Strait of Hormuz. Macron underscored that the restoration of this strategic route is only possible after consultations with Iran and achieving a ceasefire.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the most important maritime routes in the world, through which a significant portion of global oil supplies passes. Therefore, any disruptions in shipping in this region could have serious consequences for the global economy and energy security.

Estonia, as a country actively supporting measures to strengthen international security, continues to call for collective action to ensure stability in the region. The Foreign Minister emphasized that the international community must act decisively to prevent further escalation of the conflict and ensure safe maritime routes for all vessels.
