Resident of Rivne Region Sentenced to Eight Years for Spying for Russian Military
A significant court ruling in the Rivne region has led to the conviction of a 21-year-old resident of the town of Radiviliv, who was sentenced to eight years in prison for espionage on behalf of Russian military forces.
A crucial court session took place in the Rivne region, resulting in the sentencing of a 21-year-old resident of the town of Radiviliv to eight years in prison for espionage in favor of the Russian military. This information was reported by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) in the Cherkasy region on their Facebook page.
According to the information provided by the SBU, the perpetrator was detained in February 2025 during yet another attempt to transmit intelligence data. It has been established that he was spying on units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine as they moved towards the front through the western regions of the country. Specifically, he recorded the approximate number of military equipment and its tactical characteristics, posing a serious threat to national security.
Furthermore, the perpetrator traveled to the Lviv region under the pretext of meeting with relatives, where he attempted to identify the locations of operational airfields from which the enemy planned to conduct shelling. This activity indicates his active participation in hostile plans and intentions.
According to the investigation, the perpetrator received promises from Russian occupiers regarding 'evacuation' to Russia and a passport from the aggressor country in exchange for his cooperation. This demonstrates that he was willing to take risks for personal gain, underscoring the seriousness of his criminal intentions.
During a search, a mobile phone was seized from him, which contained evidence of his collaboration with the occupiers. These materials became the basis for the charges and subsequent court proceedings.
The court found him guilty under part 3 of Article 114-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which stipulates punishment for unauthorized dissemination of information regarding the movement, transit, or location of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which may lead to their identification in the field. This decision highlights the importance of combating espionage and protecting Ukraine's national interests.
The investigation in this case was conducted by SBU employees in the Cherkasy region under the procedural guidance of the regional prosecutor's office. It is important to note that this is not the first instance where the SBU has uncovered individuals collaborating with Russian military forces. Earlier, reports were made about the detention of a minor who, along with his father, was correcting Russian strikes on Dnipro, indicating the systemic nature of the espionage problem in Ukraine.
This situation once again emphasizes the need for vigilance and active work by law enforcement agencies in combating hostile elements attempting to harm Ukraine amid the ongoing war. The Security Service of Ukraine continues its activities aimed at identifying and neutralizing threats to national security.
