On Wednesday, April 8, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAP) officially concluded their pre-trial investigation into the case of Yulia Tymoshenko, the leader of the Batkivshchyna political party. This investigation marks a significant part of Ukraine's anti-corruption efforts, involving serious allegations related to corruption schemes within the parliament.
According to information provided by NABU's press service, in December 2025, despite the exposure of facts regarding bribes received by members of the Ukrainian parliament, the suspect Yulia Tymoshenko began negotiations with certain parliamentarians regarding a reward system for loyal voting. It is known that this involved a cooperation mechanism, where payments were planned in advance, and the elected officials were expected to follow voting instructions.
On February 27, NABU head Semen Kryvonos stated that detectives had information about possible pressure being exerted on experts involved in the Tymoshenko case. This raised concerns among human rights defenders and experts monitoring the developments of anti-corruption investigations in Ukraine. They believe that pressure on witnesses could significantly affect the objectivity of the investigation.
On January 23, the press service of the High Anti-Corruption Court (VAKS) reported that the full amount of bail had been posted for Tymoshenko. She was required to pay this bail within five days; otherwise, the prosecution could file a motion for a stricter preventive measure. This moment underscores the seriousness of the situation in which the politician finds herself.
Yulia Tymoshenko is suspected of bribing deputies for votes in the Verkhovna Rada. On January 14, NABU released audio recordings in which, according to the investigation, a woman's voice, presumably belonging to one of the deputies, discusses the amounts of bribes and gives instructions on how to vote on specific legislative proposals. This particularly concerns issues of appointments or dismissals, which has sparked widespread public resonance.
During a VAKS session on January 16, Tymoshenko claimed that another member of parliament featured in the NABU recordings is 'Servant of the People' Igor Kopytin, who, according to her, orchestrated a 'provocation' against her at the bureau's request. She vehemently denied all corruption allegations and labeled the NABU audio recordings as false. These statements only highlight the tension and political struggle surrounding this case.
Yulia Tymoshenko faces up to 10 years in prison with property confiscation under part 4 of Article 369 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. This situation raises concerns among her supporters and opponents alike, as it could significantly impact Ukraine's political landscape in the near future.
Thus, the case of Yulia Tymoshenko continues to remain at the center of attention for both the media and the public, as it is a crucial part of the fight against corruption in Ukraine. The further steps of the investigation and the public's reaction to these events could significantly influence the political situation in the country.
