In Transcarpathia, Woman Rents Out Her Children for Begging for $1000

Authorities in Transcarpathia have charged a woman who allegedly rented out her children for begging in exchange for $1000. The incident has raised serious concerns about child exploitation in Ukraine.

In a shocking case from Transcarpathia, law enforcement officials have reported that a woman has been suspected of renting out her children for begging in exchange for $1000. According to a statement from the Office of the Prosecutor General, the resident of the village of Ilnytsia in the Khust district handed over her 11-year-old son and 5-year-old daughter for a two-week period, intending to use them to collect money on the streets.

Investigators revealed that the woman actively sought potential buyers through acquaintances and messaging apps, offering her children for such 'work.' She was apprehended near Irshava immediately after receiving the money for the 'rental' of her children.

According to information provided by the prosecutor's office, the woman has been charged under part 3 of Article 149 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which pertains to human trafficking involving minors by exploiting their vulnerable condition. This serious offense carries severe penalties for those found guilty.

Following her arrest, the prosecutor's office filed a motion with the court to impose a preventive measure for the suspect. The court granted the request, placing her in custody with the possibility of posting bail set at nearly 1 million hryvnias. Currently, the woman remains in custody while awaiting further investigations and court hearings.

It is important to note that the woman has another child, an 8-year-old daughter. In light of this, the prosecutor's office has already initiated proceedings to revoke her parental rights due to concerns for the children's welfare. The children who were removed from the family are currently in a hospital under medical supervision, receiving the necessary care and support.

This incident comes against the backdrop of other similar cases uncovered by law enforcement. For instance, a woman was recently detained in Kyiv for illegally transporting a newborn girl abroad and handing her over to a foreign couple. These situations underscore the seriousness of the human trafficking problem in Ukraine, which requires urgent attention.

Human rights activists and social services continue to emphasize the need to protect children from such crimes. They urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious situations that may threaten children's safety. The government and law enforcement agencies must take all necessary measures to prevent such cases in the future.
