Resident of Izyum Sentenced to 15 Years for Espionage Against Ukrainian Armed Forces
A 36-year-old resident of Izyum has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for committing treason during a state of war, as ruled by the Shevchenkivskyi District Court of Kharkiv.
The Shevchenkivskyi District Court of Kharkiv has found a 36-year-old resident of Izyum guilty of treason committed under conditions of martial law, in accordance with part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The court has sentenced him to 15 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property, as reported by the press service of the Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor's Office.
According to the case materials, in the summer of 2025, this man began actively contacting the administrator and actual owner of a Telegram channel that specializes in collecting and transmitting information about the location of Ukrainian military forces and equipment to the Russian military. At the behest of a representative of the Russian Federation, the Izyum resident started gathering data on the positions of the Defense Forces, disguising his actions as an offer of assistance with household chores.
In order to gain the trust of Ukrainian military personnel and access information about their deployment on the Izyum front, the man offered his services as a laborer. While in close proximity to the military, he secretly photographed and filmed the locations of personnel and equipment, as well as marked these coordinates on screenshots of Google Maps. The collected data was sent to the Russian representative, following his directives.
Thanks to the efforts of law enforcement, the Izyum resident was detained in September 2025. During the investigation, it was established that his actions caused serious harm to Ukraine's national security, as he attempted to relay critical information that could be used against Ukrainian military forces.
This case serves as a vivid example of the threats facing Ukraine in the context of war, where traitors attempt to employ various means to gather information for the benefit of the enemy. The court ruling issued by the Shevchenkivskyi District Court demonstrates the Ukrainian authorities' determination to combat treason and protect national security.
It is important to note that such cases are not isolated incidents. Law enforcement agencies in Ukraine are actively working to identify and punish individuals who collaborate with the enemy. Authorities urge citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities that may threaten the country's security.
