Memorial Project 'Road of Life' Receives Award at International Media Architecture Competition

The Ukrainian memorial project 'Road of Life' has gained international recognition by winning an award at the Media Architecture Biennale held this year in Bangkok, Thailand. This event marks a significant milestone for Ukrainian initiatives as the project, created at the site of the Romaniiv Bridge in Irpin, symbolizes the memory of those who evacuated through this bridge at the onset of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Mykola Kabluka, the founder of Expolight, the company that implemented this installation, announced the project's victory. It received the award in the 'Spatial Media Art' category, highlighting the importance of artistic expression in the context of contemporary challenges.

The 'Road of Life' installation is not only noted for its aesthetic qualities but also carries deep symbolism. It was created with the aim of healing and revival, as the red threads that pass through the bridge symbolize not only physical but also emotional healing. 'The red threads of light pulse like stitches on a wound, reminding us: concrete can be broken, but freedom never will,' emphasized Mykola Kabluka, underlining the significance of this project for Ukrainian society.

Kabluka also expressed his feelings regarding the award: 'Receiving an award of this level brings a profound sense of internal pride and responsibility. For the story we told to the whole world. For the people for whom it was created. And for the fact that in this case, light became more than just a tool – it became a language of memory and life.'
