Cabbage Prices Drop 22% in One Week

According to a report by Ukrinform, cabbage prices in Ukraine have plummeted by 22% over the past week, as producers scramble to sell their remaining stock due to declining quality.

According to a report from Ukrinform, based on information from the analytical platform EastFruit, prices for white cabbage in Ukraine have decreased by 22% in the last week. Producers note that the quality of the 2025 harvest is rapidly deteriorating during storage, forcing farmers to urgently sell off their remaining products. This trend comes ahead of the arrival of early vegetables on the market, which could further decrease demand for cabbage.

Currently, white cabbage is being offered for sale at a wholesale price ranging from 2 to 8 hryvnias per kilogram, which is equivalent to approximately $0.05 to $0.18 per kilogram. This represents an average price drop of 22% compared to the previous week, indicating significant changes in the vegetable market.

Experts attribute the price decline to a drop in demand caused by the deteriorating quality of the produce, as well as substantial volumes of imported new harvest cabbage actively entering the Ukrainian market. This influx is leading to market saturation and, consequently, a decrease in prices domestically.

Interestingly, compared to last year, white cabbage in Ukraine is being offered at an average of 88% lower prices. This reflects serious changes in the agricultural sector and the vegetable market as a whole. Analysts predict that price increases are only likely after the complete sell-off of last year's produce currently held by farmers.

Amid these developments, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine is discussing the possibility of implementing a state-level forecasting system for agricultural production. This initiative aims to provide farmers with regional recommendations regarding production and export volumes, which could help avoid similar situations in the future.
