Ukrainian Intelligence Reveals Detailed Information on Russian Guided Munitions 'Krasnopol-M2'

The Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine (HUR) has released comprehensive details about the Russian guided munitions 'Krasnopol-M2' via its official Facebook account, including an interactive 3D model and information about the companies involved in their production.

According to reports from Ukrinform, the Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine (HUR) has disclosed extensive information regarding the Russian guided munitions known as 'Krasnopol-M2' on its official Facebook account. This release includes an interactive 3D model, components of the munitions, and details about the enterprises participating in their production.

As per the provided data, the developer and primary manufacturer of the munitions is the 'Design Bureau of Instrument Engineering named after Academician Shipunov,' which is part of the 'High-Precision Systems' holding of the state corporation 'Rostec.' This enterprise possesses significant experience in the development and production of precision munitions, and in early April 2023, it publicly announced new supplies of 'Krasnopol-M2' shells for use in the war against Ukraine.

The guided high-explosive fragmentation munition 'Krasnopol,' with a caliber of 152 mm, is designed for deployment with self-propelled artillery systems such as the 'Msta-S' and 'Akatsiya,' as well as towed systems including the 'Msta-B' and D-20. The guidance of these shells is achieved through laser target illumination, which can be provided by both ground-based systems and drones, such as the 'Orlan-30' and 'Granat-4.' This capability allows for high precision in striking targets on the battlefield.

According to HUR, a 'Krasnopol-M2' shot consists of a guided high-explosive fragmentation shell 3of95, a propellant charge, and special packaging. The range of impact depends on the system modification and charge and can exceed 20 kilometers. These characteristics make the 'Krasnopol-M2' one of the most dangerous munitions employed by Russian forces during the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

Furthermore, as part of the update, HUR also released details about the construction of the shells and a list of 17 enterprises involved in their production. This indicates that the manufacturing of such munitions is a complex process requiring the participation of multiple companies that supply various components.

The military intelligence agency emphasized that five of the listed enterprises are still not under sanctions from any partner countries, despite their involvement in the production of key components, including guidance system elements, steering engine components, and warhead fuses. This raises concerns, as countries supporting Ukraine need to be aware of such enterprises to take measures to limit their activities.

'The aggressor state, Russia, continues to use precision munitions in its war against Ukraine, relying on access to technologies and components,' HUR stated, highlighting the seriousness of the situation and the necessity for international support to counter Russian aggression.

It is worth noting that earlier, HUR also released detailed information about Russian loitering munitions 'Lancet' and 'Scalpel,' indicating ongoing monitoring and analysis of new threats that may arise due to Russian aggression.
