Georgia Extends Support for Ukrainian Refugees for Three More Months
The Government of Georgia has made a significant decision to extend assistance for Ukrainian refugees for an additional three months, providing crucial support to those fleeing the war in Ukraine.
The Government of Georgia has officially decided to prolong its assistance for Ukrainian refugees for an additional three months, marking a vital step in supporting individuals who have fled from the ongoing conflict. According to information released by Georgia Online and reported by Ukrinform, Ukrainian refugees will be able to access medical services and financial support until July 1, 2026. This decision is part of Georgia's broader efforts to ensure the safety and well-being of Ukrainian citizens who have found refuge within its borders.
It is important to note that under this decision, cases where an individual crosses the border and returns within three days will also be considered as permanent residency in Georgia. This new provision allows Ukrainian refugees greater flexibility in their movements without losing their refugee status.
Georgia is also providing medical services through state health programs. Among these services are treatments for tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS, and diabetes. Special attention is being given to the provision of specific medications for these conditions, which is a crucial aspect of supporting the health of refugees.
The financial assistance for Ukrainian families residing in Georgia amounts to 300 lari, which is approximately 97 euros. Additionally, each individual receiving this assistance can expect an extra 45 lari (14.5 euros) per month. However, it is important to note that starting next month, the monthly assistance of 45 lari will not be paid to individuals who have gained the right to receive it under the 'Law on International Protection' or who have left the territory of Georgia.
The payment of 300 lari will also cease if all family members leave the territory of Georgia. This rule aims to ensure that assistance is provided only to those who genuinely need support and remain in the country.
Recently, Canada also extended the Canadian-Ukrainian Emergency Travel Authorization (CUAET), which allows Ukrainians to live and work in the country. This reflects international solidarity and support for Ukrainian refugees in various countries around the world.
As a neighboring country, Georgia continues to demonstrate its readiness to assist Ukrainians who find themselves in difficult circumstances due to military actions in Ukraine. This decision by the Georgian government is yet another step towards strengthening humanitarian aid and support for those in need of protection and assistance during these challenging times.
