FSB Agent Arrested in Khmelnytskyi for Planning Terror Attack on Ukrainian Military
The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has announced the arrest of an FSB agent who was preparing a terror attack at a gathering point of Ukrainian military personnel in Khmelnytskyi. Thanks to the efforts of law enforcement, the hostile plan was uncovered before it could be executed.
The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has reported the arrest of an agent of the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation (FSB), who was plotting a terror attack at a location where Ukrainian military personnel were congregating in Khmelnytskyi. The operation by law enforcement agencies successfully thwarted the enemy's plan prior to its implementation.
According to investigative findings, the suspect intended to detonate an explosive device at the moment law enforcement officers arrived at the scene. To facilitate this, he planned to make an anonymous call to emergency services at number 102, believing that this would increase the number of casualties. The activation of the explosives was to occur remotely as police arrived at the site of the planned attack.
SBU officers identified the hostile intent in advance and apprehended the agent during his reconnaissance at the location where he intended to plant a homemade explosive device (HED). It has been established that the operation was being carried out by a local drug addict who had been recruited by the Russian security service while seeking funds for drugs through Telegram channels.
After recruitment, the agent received detailed instructions from his Russian curator on how to construct a homemade explosive device using readily available materials. Concurrently, he was traversing the city to identify areas with the highest concentration of personnel from the Ukrainian Defense Forces.
During his reconnaissance missions, the suspect not only marked relevant coordinates on Google Maps but also photographed the sites in relation to the surrounding buildings and terrain. This indicates meticulous preparation and planning for the terror attack.
Furthermore, the agent was searching for hiding spots to plant the homemade bomb, and he transmitted the gathered information to the FSB to coordinate the preparation of the attack. During searches of the detainee, law enforcement seized a ready-to-use homemade explosive device and a smartphone containing evidence of his collaboration with Russian intelligence services.
Investigators from the SBU have already informed the detainee of his suspicion under part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which pertains to treason committed in conditions of martial law. Currently, the suspect is in custody without the right to bail, facing the possibility of life imprisonment with asset confiscation.
This incident is not isolated. As reported by Ukrinform, the SBU previously arrested an FSB agent who was preparing an assassination attempt in Kyiv against one of the leaders of the Federation of Employers of Ukraine. This highlights the active presence of Russian intelligence services within Ukraine and their attempts to destabilize the situation in the country.
The Security Service of Ukraine continues its efforts to identify and neutralize threats associated with the activities of hostile agents attempting to undermine the security of the state. Citizens are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities that may threaten the safety of the country.
