Two National Guard Colonels Under Investigation for Multi-Million Payments for Unfulfilled Tasks

Two colonels, who previously held the positions of commander and first deputy in a unit of the National Guard of Ukraine, are under suspicion for their involvement in multi-million payments for tasks that were allegedly not fulfilled. This news emerged on Tuesday, April 7, from the Office of the Attorney General.

According to the investigation, in March 2025, these officials calculated and disbursed additional funds to 164 servicemen for the period from December 2024 to February 2025. These payments were purportedly made for the execution of combat and special tasks, including the maintenance of checkpoints. However, it has been revealed that the unit was assigned to maintain seven such checkpoints in the Kryvorizhsky district of Dnipropetrovsk region, which is not a combat zone.

Furthermore, the investigation established that the actual execution of these tasks during the specified period was not documented. This raises serious questions regarding the legality and justification of the payments made, as servicemen received funds for tasks that were not completed.

The Office of the Attorney General also noted that, on average, each serviceman received between 85,000 and 90,000 hryvnias over three months. The total losses incurred by the state as a result of these unlawful payments exceeded 11.9 million hryvnias. Currently, law enforcement agencies have taken measures to recover the excess funds that were disbursed.

The actions of the suspects have been classified under part 4 of Article 425 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which stipulates liability for negligence in military service that leads to severe consequences in a state of war. This underscores the seriousness of the situation and the necessity of holding those responsible accountable.

This case has sparked outrage in society, as it serves as yet another confirmation of the corruption problems within Ukrainian military structures. In wartime, when every hryvnia counts, such actions are particularly unacceptable. They undermine trust in military institutions and jeopardize national security.

It is important to remember that the National Guard of Ukraine performs vital tasks to ensure law and order and security in the country, especially in the context of military conflict. Instances of corruption and abuse in this area can have serious repercussions not only for the military but for society as a whole.

In this regard, law enforcement agencies continue to work on identifying and punishing corruption schemes within military structures to ensure the proper use of budgetary funds and to enhance the level of trust in law enforcement agencies.
