In the city of Szarvas, located in Hungary, the first-ever Easter service conducted in the Ukrainian language took place. This event became a landmark for the Ukrainian community residing in the region and was organized thanks to the initiative of the public organization Litera. Community representative and activist Marina Snitko reported on this significant occasion.

The tradition of communal prayers among Ukrainians in Szarvas began in 2023. At that time, it was a bold step aimed at creating a space for spiritual support for Ukrainians who found themselves far from their homeland. Today, this initiative has evolved into a regional-scale event, highlighting the importance of preserving the cultural traditions of the Ukrainian people beyond the borders of Ukraine.

The Easter service, which took place within the walls of the St. Laszlo Church, was led by Father Volodymyr Mysiv. Dozens of Ukrainians gathered together to experience the warmth of communal prayer and participate in the traditional basket blessing ceremony. This ritual became for many a symbolic bridge connecting them to their homeland, as Easter has always been an important holiday for Ukrainians, uniting families and communities.

The realization of this event was the result of the solidarity of the Ukrainian community and the support of several institutions. The event organizers expressed sincere gratitude to everyone who contributed to its execution. 'This event is more than just a service. It has become a testament to the strength of the community and its ability to preserve its culture even beyond the borders of the homeland. Szarvas has become another important place on the spiritual map of the Ukrainian world,' noted participants of the event.

Today, Ukrainian traditions in Hungary are not only preserved but are also actively integrated into the broader European cultural space. This confirms the unity of Ukrainians in their faith and aspiration for light, as well as their desire to maintain their cultural roots despite the distance from their homeland.

It is worth noting that a series of ceremonial events dedicated to Shevchenko Days took place in various cities across Hungary under the symbolic title 'On Our Land – Hope Lives.' The main guest of the program was the folk dance ensemble 'Svitank' from Kropyvnytskyi, which showcased Ukrainian art in Nyíregyháza, Budapest, and Kecskemét. These events have become significant for promoting Ukrainian culture and strengthening ties among Ukrainians living in Hungary.
