White House Confirms U.S.-Iran Talks This Weekend

On Sunday, October 15, the White House officially confirmed that the United States will participate in negotiations with Iran scheduled for this weekend in Islamabad, Pakistan's capital.

On Sunday, October 15, the White House officially confirmed that the United States will participate in negotiations with Iran scheduled for this weekend in Islamabad, Pakistan's capital. This announcement was made by White House Press Secretary Caroline Levitt during a live-streamed briefing, as reported by Ukrinform.

Levitt stated that the talks will commence on Saturday morning local time. She also confirmed that the U.S. delegation will include Special Envoy Steve Vitkoff and Jared Kushner, both of whom possess significant experience in diplomatic matters related to the Middle East.

During the briefing, Levitt refuted reports that emerged in Iranian media claiming that Iran had once again closed the Strait of Hormuz in response to increased Israeli attacks on targets in Lebanon. She emphasized that such actions by Iran would be "absolutely unacceptable" and that the U.S. cannot allow such steps to occur.

"President Trump wants the strait to be opened immediately without any restrictions, and we will demand Iran's compliance with this," Levitt stated, highlighting the importance of free passage through this strategic waterway, which is critical for global trade.

Furthermore, Levitt noted that Lebanon is not a party to the temporary ceasefire agreement, complicating the situation in the region even further. She emphasized that the ceasefire, which has been ongoing for nearly six weeks, has "achieved and exceeded its primary military objectives," but is inherently unstable.

Levitt also warned that achieving long-term peace and ending the war will require more time and effort from all parties involved. She acknowledged that even if a ceasefire is established, its adherence will remain in question due to the tensions between the parties.

It is worth noting that U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth previously stated that the United States is prepared to strike if Iran attempts to use the ceasefire to regroup its forces. This underscores the seriousness of U.S. intentions in supporting stability in the region and preventing escalation of the conflict.

Thus, the negotiations taking place in Islamabad could represent a significant step in reducing tensions between the U.S. and Iran, as well as ensuring security in the strategically vital waters of the Strait of Hormuz.
