Trump said he instructed Vice President JD Vance , Secretary of State Marco Rubio , and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Dan Razin’ Caine to work with Israeli and Lebanese officials toward what he described as a lasting peace arrangement.
The announcement followed the first direct talks between Israel and Lebanon in more than three decades, which were held earlier this week in Washington, DC .
On Monday, Israeli government spokeswoman Shosh Bedrosian said the dialogue was aimed at disarming Hezbollah , removing its presence from southern Lebanon, and establishing peaceful relations between the two countries.
Lebanon was pulled into the regional conflict after Hezbollah launched attacks against Israel on March 2.
Israeli forces have since invaded south Lebanon, carrying out a major offensive on April 8, which Lebanese authorities said resulted in more than 300 deaths, CNN reported.
Trump welcomed the ceasefire negotiations, saying, “It has been my honor to solve nine wars across the world, and this will be my tenth.”
