Before joining the department, Pigott served as strategic communications director for the Republican National Committee and worked on the communications team for President Donald Trump’s 2024 campaign. Pigott joined the State Department in January 2025 and had been serving as principal deputy spokesperson to former spokesperson Tammy Bruce, frequently addressing issues including the Israel-Hamas war and US-Iran relations. The role had been vacant since Trump appointed Bruce as US deputy representative to the United Nations. In earlier remarks on Ukraine, Pigott emphasized the administration’s push for direct Russia-Ukraine negotiations, saying Washington did not want meetings “for the sake of having meetings.” Kyiv Post is Ukraine’s first and oldest English news organization since 1995.
