Ukraine’s largest agricultural holding, Kernel, launched a partnership with NASA Harvest to provide field data to develop advanced satellite-based agricultural monitoring systems.
NASA Harvest, NASA’s global food security and agriculture consortium, uses satellite imagery and machine learning to evaluate crop structures and sustainability practices. By integrating real-time data from Ukrainian fields, the consortium refines its algorithms to confirm farming techniques and yield estimates. Kernel expects it will improve global analytical models for crop identification and soil tillage assessment.

According to Kernel’s press release, the collaboration was implemented in partnership with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
“Collaboration with NASA Harvest will allow for higher accuracy in data regarding environmental and climate performance,” Marta Trofimova, the Head of Sustainable Development at Kernel, is quoted in the press release . She noted that the partnership is vital to developing financial instruments and to preparing the Ukrainian agricultural sector to implement EU legislative requirements.
Ukrainian agribusinesses are engaging with space technology. Last year Nibulon, a leading grain exporter and shipbuilder, also collaborated with NASA-Harvest. In 2024, the Ukrainian Agribusiness Club (UCAB) began working with a consortium to bolster food security data.
