Speaking from Brussels, Toveri said the Trump administration’s approach to Ukraine should be a wake-up call for Europe.   Follow our coverage of the war on the @Kyivpost_official . Referring to US Vice President JD Vance’s claim that ending aid to Kyiv was one of the administration’s proudest achievements, Toveri said neither Vance nor President Donald Trump understands Washington’s long-term strategic interests.  Biggest damage to US itself  Toveri argued that the biggest damage from Trump’s foreign policy is being done to the US itself, because alliances depend on trust. He said Europe, by contrast, is strong enough to act more independently than many assume.  “We can support Ukraine. We have resources to support Ukraine. It’s not a problem,” he said.  He also dismissed claims that Europe would be defenseless without the US, saying European NATO countries still have an overwhelming conventional military advantage over Russia, even if key gaps remain in areas such as intelligence, air refueling and long-range capabilities.  Toveri said political change in Hungary could make EU decision-making easier after years of obstruction by Viktor Orbán. He described the incoming government as a “very, very fresh wind” because it is pro-EU and less likely to block support for Kyiv.  Other Topics of Interest Ukraine Secures New Aid Pledges at Ramstein, Zelensky Urges Fast Delivery Zelensky says allies pledged fresh aid for drones, air defense, and logistics, stressing delivery timelines are now critical for Ukraine’s battlefield resilience. At the same time, he argued that Europe has been too slow and too cautious in helping Ukraine. “That’s not the plan. That’s not the strategy,” he said, criticizing the idea of supporting Kyiv indefinitely without a clear objective.  His preferred outcome is far more ambitious. “I would triple the support to Ukraine so that Ukraine could have enough resources to kick the Russians out within a year,” he said.  Toveri said faster, larger support now would not only strengthen Ukraine’s defenses, but also reduce the eventual cost of the country’s reconstruction.
