Rising Prices: Volodymyr Zelensky Calls on Cabinet for Support Decisions
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed hope for swift decisions from the Cabinet of Ministers to support the population amid rising prices. He made this statement during a video address on the evening of April 7.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has called for immediate action from the Cabinet of Ministers to provide support to citizens facing the challenges of rising prices. In a video address delivered on the evening of April 7, Zelensky emphasized the urgent need for effective measures in light of the current economic instability.
Zelensky pointed out that the situation in the Middle East has led to destabilization across global markets. He noted that the economic consequences could be significant, and Ukraine must find internal solutions to ensure the defense, economy, and social needs are met over the long term.
"Today, I spoke with government officials about how to support people amid rising prices—external instability always manifests in very sensitive price fluctuations. The government must prepare steps regarding this—I am counting on systemic solutions," the president stated.
Furthermore, Volodymyr Zelensky announced that Ukraine has already reached agreements with international partners regarding the import of necessary fuel volumes, which is a crucial step towards ensuring stability in the domestic market.
Earlier, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has repeatedly made decisions aimed at providing direct economic support to the population. Specifically, in April of this year, pensioners and other socially vulnerable groups are receiving a one-time targeted payment of 1,500 hryvnias, which is intended to help them cope with financial difficulties.
Additionally, from March 20, Ukraine introduced a fuel Cashback program, which, according to Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko, has already been utilized by over 1.3 million Ukrainians. This program allows citizens to receive a portion of their spent funds back, providing additional support amid rising fuel prices.
Moreover, since March, the National Cashback program has also undergone changes: instead of a single cashback rate of 10%, differentiated rates of 5% and 15% have been introduced depending on the category of goods. This allows consumers to benefit based on their purchases.
It is important to note that from November 15 to December 24 of last year, the Winter Support program was in effect, under which all citizens of Ukraine could receive 1,000 hryvnias. These measures demonstrate the government's efforts to support the population amid economic challenges.
Thus, the Ukrainian government continues to seek ways to support its citizens during difficult times, and President Zelensky is urging active measures to ensure stability and the well-being of the population.
