Media Crew Comes Under Mortar Fire in Dnipropetrovsk Region

On March 30, a media crew from Suspilne found themselves in a perilous situation when they came under mortar fire in the village of Kapulivka, part of the Pokrovsk community in Dnipropetrovsk region, while preparing a report on civilian life in the Nikopol district.

On March 30, in the village of Kapulivka, which is part of the Pokrovsk community in the Dnipropetrovsk region, a dangerous situation unfolded as a media crew from Suspilne came under mortar fire. The incident occurred while they were preparing a report about the lives of civilians in the Nikopol district. Correspondent Roman Mykhalchuk and cameraman Daniil Nikolaienko were working under police escort, attempting to document the aftermath of Russian attacks on the coastal area.

The shelling began just as the journalist was preparing to film on-site. According to Mykhalchuk, the Russians likely spotted the police vehicle, as well as the journalists who were wearing bulletproof vests and helmets. 'We heard the whistle of a shell that struck the street about 100 meters from us. There was no option to hide immediately because it was a matter of seconds,' he commented to the Institute of Mass Information.

The journalists managed to lie down on the ground and wait out the initial explosions, and later they were able to reach the police vehicle. However, the shelling continued during their departure, with one of the shells exploding just 50 meters from the car. Fortunately, none of the journalists or law enforcement officers were injured, which reflects their quick response and professionalism.

This incident is a stark example of the dangers faced by media professionals while fulfilling their duties in conflict zones. It is worth noting that in February of this year, a crew from the Inter television channel came under enemy fire in Kramatorsk, resulting in injuries to war correspondent Ihor Levenok from the Podrobits program. Such cases highlight the risks that journalists face as they strive to report the truth about the situation in Ukraine.

In light of these events, it is crucial to pay attention to the safety of media workers operating in hazardous conditions. They risk their lives to convey information about events occurring on the front lines and about the lives of people suffering from the consequences of war.
