Zelensky: If Russia Halts Strikes on Ukraine's Energy Sector, We Will Respond in Kind

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated in his evening address on April 6 that Ukraine is prepared to cease strikes on Russia's energy infrastructure if the Russian side agrees to similar actions. This statement reflects the Ukrainian government's willingness to engage in dialogue, contingent upon the enemy's readiness to de-escalate the conflict.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, in his evening address on April 6, announced that Ukraine is ready to stop its strikes on Russia's energy infrastructure if the Russian side agrees to reciprocate. This declaration signifies the Ukrainian authorities' readiness for dialogue, but only if the adversary also shows a willingness to de-escalate the ongoing conflict.

Zelensky emphasized that this proposal was communicated through American partners, highlighting Ukraine's active collaboration with international allies on security and defense issues. He noted that the Russian side has received this information and has the opportunity to consider it.

In his address, Zelensky expressed gratitude to international partners who continue to exert pressure on Russia through various sanctions, including halting tankers and imposing restrictions on the supply of modern equipment to the aggressor country. He underscored that these actions are crucial for diminishing Russia's military capabilities.

The President of Ukraine pointed out that all revenues Russia generates from oil exports are being funneled into financing its war against Ukraine. He stated, "Therefore, every limitation we impose on their ability to export oil is justified." These remarks highlight the importance of economic pressure on the aggressor as one of the key tools in the fight for Ukraine's independence.

The context of this statement lies in the fact that since the onset of the war, Russia has actively targeted Ukraine's energy infrastructure, attempting to break the will of the Ukrainian people and halt the country's economic development. Consequently, strikes on energy facilities have become a part of Russia's strategy, compelling the Ukrainian side to seek ways to respond to these aggressive actions.

It is important to note that the international community is actively supporting Ukraine in its efforts to defend its territory and sovereignty. The sanctions imposed against Russia aim not only to limit its economic capabilities but also to demonstrate that aggression will not go unpunished. Meanwhile, Ukraine continues to work on strengthening its own defense capabilities and energy security.

Thus, Zelensky's statement regarding the readiness for reciprocal actions in the event of a cessation of attacks from Russia reflects Ukraine's desire for peace while also demonstrating determination in protecting its interests. This also underscores the significance of international support in the ongoing struggle against aggression that has persisted for over a year.
