Zelensky Expresses Desire for American THAAD Missile Defense Systems

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky has articulated his wish to obtain American THAAD missile defense systems, asserting that these systems could greatly improve Ukraine's defense capabilities against Russian aerial bombings. This statement was made during a press interaction, where he elaborated on the reasons he believes these systems are essential for the security of Ukraine.

Zelensky pointed out that Ukraine already has experience collaborating with countries in the Middle East and the Gulf through consultations and expertise. He emphasized that Ukraine seeks to leverage the anti-ballistic systems available in these countries, which are currently absent in Ukraine. Specifically, the president mentioned THAAD systems and other similar technologies, which he considers critically important for ensuring the nation's security. "Such systems are not available even in Europe. It is crucial that they be in Ukraine," he stressed.

The president also highlighted that the THAAD systems, presently utilized in Middle Eastern countries, could significantly reduce the threat posed by Russian aerial bombings. "Then the threats from Russian aerial bombs would simply not exist in Ukraine. At least for 200 kilometers, we would certainly eliminate this threat," said the president, pointing to the potential of these systems in the context of national security.
