Zelensky: Ukraine Not Involved in Unblocking the Strait of Hormuz, But Ready to Share Expertise

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has emphasized the importance of unblocking the Strait of Hormuz, stating that the issue should primarily be addressed by the United States and Middle Eastern countries, while Ukraine stands ready to offer its expertise.

During a press conference held as part of his Middle Eastern tour, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed his views on the necessity of unblocking the Strait of Hormuz. He pointed out that this issue should be resolved primarily by the United States and the countries of the Middle East and the Gulf that are engaged in dialogue on this matter. 'No one has involved us specifically in the issue of the Strait of Hormuz. To the representatives of the Middle East and the Gulf with whom I spoke during my visits, I said: regarding everything related to defense, Ukraine is ready to help,' Zelensky emphasized.

The President also highlighted the significance of Ukrainian expertise in unblocking the Black Sea corridor, noting that this issue is actively discussed. 'Remember how it was with the 'Russians'? We agreed, unblocked it, it worked for a year, and then it stopped working. So the issue is not only about unblocking but also about maintenance, rules, and protection. If we are involved, we will hear the proposal and help. But they have left us out of their alliance for now,' the President remarked.

It is worth recalling that on March 30, Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Ukraine had discussed the possibility of cooperation with Middle Eastern countries regarding maritime drones and the unblocking of sea routes. This indicates Ukraine's proactive stance on maritime security issues and its readiness to collaborate with international partners.

On March 27, the President of Ukraine began his Middle Eastern tour, during which he visited several countries, including Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Jordan. This trip marked an important phase in strengthening Ukraine's relations with countries in the region that hold strategic significance for security and the economy.

In Doha, during a meeting with the Emir of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Zelensky signed an agreement on mutually beneficial partnership in the defense sector, valid for at least ten years. A similar agreement was signed with Saudi Arabia, indicating the activation of Ukraine's cooperation with Middle Eastern countries in the defense sector.

Furthermore, during an online communication with journalists, the President noted that a similar document is planned to be signed with the United Arab Emirates. This underscores Ukraine's commitment to strengthening its defense capabilities and collaborating with international partners in the face of modern challenges.

Thus, Ukraine demonstrates its readiness to be an active player on the international stage, offering its experience and expertise in security matters while seeking new opportunities for collaboration with Middle Eastern countries.
