Zelensky Supports US Initiative on Iran and Opposes Easing Sanctions on Russia Amid Falling Oil Prices

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has expressed his support for the United States' initiative aimed at addressing the situation surrounding Iran, while simultaneously opposing any easing of sanctions on Russia in light of recent declines in oil prices.

In a recent video address, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky welcomed the initiative from the United States aimed at resolving the ongoing situation in Iran. He emphasized that the drop in oil prices following the announcement of a ceasefire serves as an additional argument against the easing of sanctions imposed on Russia.

Zelensky pointed out that even the mere announcement of a ceasefire has allowed markets to react positively, resulting in a decrease in oil prices. He stated, "And this is at the same time a correct signal regarding Russia," highlighting that the reduction in Moscow's oil revenues directly impacts its ability to wage war against Ukraine.

The Ukrainian leader also stressed the importance of unblocking the Strait of Hormuz, which he described as a global necessity. According to him, this would further restrict Russian revenues from oil exports, which is critically important in the context of ongoing warfare.

Zelensky underscored that Ukraine consistently adheres to the position that a ceasefire must precede a genuine end to any war. This indicates that the Ukrainian side not only seeks peace but also understands that achieving stability requires resolving all conflicts occurring within the country's territory.

It is important to note that the situation regarding oil prices and economic relations with Russia remains a focal point for the international community. The decline in oil prices could significantly affect the financial capabilities of the Kremlin, which in turn may alter the dynamics of military actions in Ukraine. As the leader of a country that has faced aggression, Zelensky clearly recognizes that economic pressure on Russia is a vital element in the fight for the restoration of Ukraine's territorial integrity.

Thus, Ukraine's position on sanctions against Russia remains unchanged, and Zelensky calls on the international community to support these sanctions to prevent the Kremlin from strengthening its positions on the international stage. At the same time, support for the American initiative regarding Iran reflects Ukraine's readiness to actively participate in global diplomatic processes that could impact regional security.
