Zelensky Expects Decrease in Patriot Missile Supplies

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has expressed concerns that the protracted conflict between the United States and Iran may adversely affect support for Ukraine, potentially leading to a reduction in the supply of critically important Patriot air defense missiles.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has articulated his worries regarding the ongoing war between the United States and Iran, suggesting that it could have detrimental effects on international support for Ukraine. This statement was made during an interview on Saturday in Istanbul with journalists from The Associated Press.

Zelensky emphasized that Ukraine is currently not a priority for the international community and expressed fears that the prolonged conflict in Iran would result in diminished support from Western partners. 'We must acknowledge that today we are not a priority. Therefore, I fear that a long war (in Iran) will give us less support,' he stated.

The Ukrainian President highlighted his primary concern regarding the Patriot systems, which are essential for intercepting Russian ballistic missiles. Zelensky pointed out that Ukraine still lacks effective alternatives to these systems, making them even more critical for ensuring the country's defense capabilities.

He also noted that American Patriot systems have never been supplied in sufficient quantities, and if the war with Iran does not conclude soon, 'the package, which is already not very large for us, I believe will become smaller and smaller every day.' These remarks reflect the President's serious concerns about the potential reduction in military assistance.

Zelensky expressed hope for support from European partners in acquiring Patriot systems, despite the limited stocks and production capacities in the United States. However, the ongoing war with Iran, which has now entered its sixth week, has sent shockwaves through the global economy and affected stability in the Middle East region. This has further complicated the resource situation, which was already constrained, and diverted attention away from supplies, leaving Ukrainian cities more vulnerable to ballistic strikes.

It is worth noting that U.S. President Donald Trump recently threatened European allies with a halt to arms supplies to Ukraine under the PURL program if they did not join the operation to unblock the Strait of Hormuz. This statement underscores the complexity of international politics and military support that Ukraine faces amid global conflicts.
