The Ukrainian national football team has faced a significant disappointment by failing to qualify for the 2026 World Cup, leaving fans disheartened. According to the reputable portal Transfermarkt, Ukraine ranks fifth among national teams with the highest total player value that will not participate in the upcoming tournament. The total value of Ukrainian players is estimated at 262 million euros.

Leading the list is the Italian national team, whose players are valued at 834 million euros. However, Italy was unable to advance further, losing in the qualifying finals to Bosnia and Herzegovina. Other teams ahead of Ukraine in this ranking include Denmark, Serbia, and Greece, with player valuations of 375 million euros, 299 million euros, and 288 million euros respectively.

In total, eight European teams and two representatives from Africa—Nigeria and Cameroon—made it into the top ten most valuable teams that failed to qualify for the World Cup. This highlights the extremely high level of competition in European football, where even teams with significant resources can fall short in the qualification process.

The contract of Ukraine's head coach, Serhiy Rebrov, is set to expire this summer. He combines his role with the national team with the position of vice president of the Ukrainian Association of Football (UAF). This dual role may play a crucial part in the future development of the team, as Rebrov possesses considerable experience and knowledge that could benefit Ukrainian football moving forward.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup is scheduled to take place from June 11 to July 19 across 16 cities in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. This tournament will be the first to feature 48 teams instead of the traditional 32, opening new opportunities for teams that previously had no chance of participating in such large-scale competitions.

It is worth noting that in the playoff semifinals for World Cup qualification, Sweden defeated Ukraine with a score of 3:1. This loss marked the last chance for the Ukrainian team to secure a spot in the World Cup, and now fans are hopeful for successful changes within the team and new opportunities in the future.
