Zelensky's Statement: The Position of Some Deputies Does Not Promote Unity

During a recent press conference, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky addressed the media, stating that the public position taken by some members of the Ukrainian parliament is not conducive to unity. "I stand for unity so that parliament can function effectively. However, today, the public stance of certain representatives of parliamentary factions is clearly not directed towards unity," he remarked, commenting on the current situation in the country.

Zelensky further highlighted that some deputies are traveling abroad, engaging with various European institutions in ways that may harm Ukraine's interests. "This is also quite destructive," he added, underscoring the critical need for unity as the nation grapples with multiple challenges.

Although the president did not name specific deputies, his remarks have sparked discussions within society, as the situation in parliament remains tense. On March 14, Zelensky indicated that deputies would either have to serve in parliament or he would be willing to discuss a bill regarding changes to mobilization procedures, allowing members of parliament to head to the front lines.

This statement was a reaction to the prevailing circumstances in the parliament, where, according to Andriy Motovylevets, the first deputy head of the Servant of the People faction, approximately 40 deputies are prepared to resign their mandates. He noted that it is becoming increasingly difficult for the faction leadership to gather votes for essential legislation needed to form the budget and fulfill international obligations.

Motovylevets believes that the primary reason for these difficulties is the fear among deputies regarding anti-corruption bodies. He stated that the situation has intensified following the scandal involving the rollback of the law concerning the independence of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAP), where deputies who supported this law faced criticism and repercussions for their decisions.
